Medical Billing & Authorization Coordinator

General Overview
The Medical Billing & Authorization Coordinator is responsible for managing the prior authorization process for physical therapy services, ensuring timely approval of patient care while maintaining compliance with insurance requirements. This role requires strong knowledge of insurance plans, medical necessity criteria, and payer portals, along with excellent organizational and communication skills. The Medical Billing & Authorization Coordinator works closely with clinical staff and insurance representatives to secure approvals, resolve denials, and support a seamless patient experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Submit and manage prior authorization requests through payer portals and authorization platforms
- Verify patient insurance benefits and eligibility prior to scheduled services
- Review and resolve authorization denials and appeals in a timely manner
- Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure medical necessity documentation meets payer requirements
- Prepare and review daily reconciliation reports
- Manage and maintain accurate medical records in accordance with clinic policies
- Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence related to physical therapy billing and authorizations
- Deliver a high level of customer service to patients and clients, demonstrating kindness, professionalism, and care
- Assist in maintaining a clean and welcoming office environment

What Makes You a Great Fit
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a clinical or healthcare administrative setting
- Strong knowledge of insurance plans, prior authorization processes, and medical terminology
- Experience using electronic health records (EHR), payer portals, and prior authorization platforms
- Understanding of benefits verification, insurance plans, and medical necessity criteria
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
